Restaurant
Our restaurant is open 7 days a week serving an array of tempting dishes, all freshly prepared by our Chefs Jonathan Fryer and Rob Bennett. Both take the utmost pride in their work and strive to deliver a consistently high quality menu and ever changing "specials".
If you haven't tried haggis before then come along and give it a try. What started as somewhat of a gimmick has now become one of our most popular dishes, probably due more to its presentation rather than an abundance of Scottish customers in the area!
Jonathan recently made it through to the finals (and came a fantastic 2nd place!) of the Welsh Advanced Skills Chefs Competition hosted by the Welsh Culinary Association and Tourism for Wales. He has also just been nominated to enter the Welsh Chef of the Year competition and is currently preparing his menu selection, so we hope you will join us in wishing him the very best of luck.
Traditional Style Bar
Our bars are well stocked with Real Ales, Premium Beers, Lagers and Ciders as well as a continually growing range of Whiskies.
We have a large open fire, which is well tended by all our regulars during the Winter months and will undoubtedly make all feel most welcome. The fire is now "lit" and roaring for the winter...
Gardens
During the Summer, our garden makes a fabulous sun trap. It consists of a lush grassy area measuring about 10 metres by 12 metres with a 4 x 6 metre wood bark play area taking up the eastern corner. (Have a look at our picture gallery).
There are picnic benches with parasols (where we serve bar snacks and meals) and there is room to seat at least 36 people comfortably.
The play area has a wooden play house with swing and slide for our younger guests, but we do have an age limit of 10 years for the play equipment.
There is further seating available (for up to about a further 40 people) in the paved patio area at the rear of the pub. On Bank holidays we will usually have a "Bouncy Castle" erected at the bottom of the garden and we offer B-B-Q burgers and hotdogs on sunny days. The Garden is gated and can be closed off for private parties. Call Julie for details.
Please note that although we welcome dogs, they are not permitted in the grassed area of the garden.
Function Room
The Golden Lion has a large private suite with it's own self contained access. It is perfect for family gatherings and has a fully functioning bar with draft beer and chilled lager, a 15 square metre dance floor and small stage area. The room can be configured for weddings, parties and theatre style presentations.
We are able to seat up to 60 diners and about 80 in a theatre style configuration. The Golden lion is happy to host your party or function and provide a range of food and drink options and packages. Accommodation
We currently have one large en-suite family room available. It has private access and has recently been built and furnished to a high standard, complete with small breakfast area for early risers (breakfast is only available in our restaurant after 10am).
